ILLUSTRATED TALKS AND WORKSHOPS - by Tim Willcocks
In the past these have been well received by Schools, Colleges,
WIs, Rotary, Probus, British Legion, Dowsers, Cub Scouts,
prison audiences and luncheon clubs. Please help me to increase
my range of audience!
1. FLOW INTO THERAPIES (No slides)
With the current surge of interest in natural therapies this
is an entertaining introduction to a few of them: shoes and
socks off for Reflexology, though it affects the whole body;
Bowen is brilliant for back pain, whiplash, stiff joints,
asthma and frozen shoulder; Bodyflows takes only minutes;
'Hopi candling' may clear blocked sinuses, headaches, earwax
and snoring; and the Q2 footspa sets your 'biomagnetic field'
to rights. This is a mixture of talking, demonstrating, questions,
and working on a few volunteers - so if you have no aches
or pains, please bring along a friend who does!
2. BOWEN THERAPY
- As above, with main emphasis on Bowen therapy, including
lecture/discussion, demonstrations, and some volunteers
please.
- To learn more about Bowen therapy go to
An Introduction to Bowen, or directly to the
Introductory
Bowen Therapy Workshop being held
28 May-4 June 2010 in Greece.
3. NATIVE AMERICAN WAYS (about 100 slides)
Traditional values have 'laid as if dead in the dust for 100
years', but native American teachers are now travelling the
world showing ways to live in harmony with creation... through
storytelling, myths, prophecies, prayer and downright common
sense.
We travel from British Columbia to Arizona to witness the
land, the people, some traditional ceremonies, drumming and
dancing, even drinking and gambling.
4. THE MEDICINE WHEEL
(From an evening session 1½ hours minimum, to a
full day event, or more. Chairs arranged in a circle for the
single session. Participants to bring one or two 'meaningful'
stones/rocks).
To include:
- Symbolism of the Medicine Wheel, the four directions,
and animal totems
- Smudging, drumming, chanting
- Myths, dreams, prophecies
- Power spot exercises
- Demonstrations and practical work
This will lead up to the main focus of the ceremonial 'building'
of a Medicine Wheel.
5. HEALING WAYS
(A short course is best taken over four to eight weekly sessions
of two hours each).
This is planned as a development of the Native American and
Medicine Wheel titles above. Participants are given hands-on
and practical experience, as well as a deeper understanding
of principles and images. They are expected to participate
fully - not on a drop-in basis.
Course content depends in part upon the venue, and upon the
experience and needs of participants, so you are advised to
make careful enquiries before booking.
6. HEALING HANDS IN BOSNIA (A talk with displays)
The Healing Hands Network was set up in following the Bosnian
war with its terrible after effects of trauma and stress.
Volunteer therapists, on two-week shifts have now been going
there for the past ten years to help make a difference to
the continuing suffering - and it really does, as Tim has
found out on his four visits there since 1997. There are huge
contrasts, from the widow with only one thumb left, the rape
victims, "my family was taken away and shot", the
devastated buildings and the reconstruction, the beautiful
landscape, and then the smiles, tears and gifts of appreciation
and gratitude. Do go to www.healinghandsnetwork.org.uk.
7. INTRODUCTION TO SACRED SITES AND EARTH MYSTERIES
(About 80 slides)
Many ancient stone circles, prehistoric earthworks, and alignments
are spread across the landscape of Britain: best known are
Stonehenge, Avebury, Callanish, St Michael's Mount, and Newgrange
in Ireland. Who built them and why? Remarkable patterns and
formations have more recently been founds in crop fields of
many countries, about 80% being in England. Dogs howl, strange
light are seen, some people feel nauseous, and electronic
gear malfunctions.
Is there a connection between the circles of the past and
those of the present?
8. THE TEXTILE TRAIL (About 90 slides)
England was the world's wool and textile centre about 600
years ago, and still boasts many of the 'original' sheep breeds
from which the modern improved crosses originated.
Starting with a range of sheep - soft, woolly, rough or special
- we move on to wool grading, then to carding, combing, dyeing,
spinning and finished products. Other fibres mentioned include
Angora, Alpaca, Mink, Silk, Ramie and Flax; also descriptions
of behind-the-scenes industrial practices.
Although the slides were taken 25 years ago, this gives an
excellent overview of the total textile process, both for
newcomers and old hands.
9. 'SPINNING A YARN' (No slides)
A session of storytelling for old and young alike: fairy stories
from the Celtic zone; native American and travel stories;
personal anecdotes from Bosnia and Ireland; tales of ghostly
experiences, logging and other hardships; and all of it with
a twinkle in the eye.
Some of these yarns were told by Tim to the 'B.C. Persons
with AIDS' gathering in Canada a few years ago. Maybe you
will laugh as much as they did!
