This 'Wheel of Life' is an introduction to understanding
life in a new way and ourselves as a part of the cycle of
heaven and earth, our inner selves and outer relations and
especially our relationship to the 'Earth Mother'. Around
the wheel are 'totems' - animal, plant, mineral - corresponding
to each astrological sign. Thus all participants can find
a personal identity within the wheel, and relate this to different
aspects of their 'Earthwalk'.
|
We may cover any or all of the following:-
- Discussing the origin, meaning and
aspects of the Medicine Wheel, including the symbolism
of the Four Directions and of the totems.
- Making contact with the Earth, Sun,
Rain and Wind, as appropriate.
- Slides of native people in North
America and of certain traditions and ceremonies as
they are being continued in this country.
- Chanting and Drumming. Smudging with
sage and sweetgrass.
- Myths, legends and prophesies.
- Making a Medicine Wheel in a ceremonial
manner and using this as a focus for healing.
- Maybe Smoking the Pipe in traditional
manner; maybe a Sweat Lodge (following Bear Tribe
tradition).

South Shield: "The
south is the place of innocence. Men who walk there
must walk with a heart of trust".
(Heyemeyohsts Storm)
We saw the
Great Spirit's work in almost everything: sun, moon,
trees, wind, and mountains. Sometimes we approached
Him through these things ... Nature is the book of that
great power which one man calls God and which we call
Great Spirit. But what difference does a name make ...?
