Historical
Bowen courses have been held in the UK since the early 1990's, Julian Baker being one of the first teachers - under the guidance of Ossie Rentsch.

Julian then separated from Ossie in 1997, and founded the European College for Bowen Studies to promote and teach the therapy in the UK and Europe.

Ossie Rentsch has rebranded the 'original Bowen Technique'
with the name BOWTECH. This is taught in the UK by the
Bowen Association (UK), which was also set up in 1997.

Present
In order for Bowen therapists to remain independent of teaching schools the Bowen Therapists' European Register was established in 1998, and this now represents the majority of Bowen therapistsin the UK.

Tim Willcocks is a fully qualified and insured member of BTER.

Developments

Therapy
Later developments of Tom Bowen's method are taught by Michael Nixon-Livy under the name Neuro-structural Integration Technique (NST).
Other variants taught, such as Smart Bowen, US Bowen, IASH, etc, are listed in the BTER Journal 'In Touch'.

Government Regulation
For the safety of the public the government requires that therapists should be properly regulated. As progress is currently being made towards the goal of 'Voluntary Self Regulation' the needs of Bowen practitioners are being promoted by The Bowen Forum.
